Early Morning Wake up Call...

At just before 6:00 am, I woke up with a really bad headache. I was sleeping on the couch as Rick was snoring really bad and I could not sleep. As I was lying there trying to decide if I wanted to get up to take some meds, I smelled something funny. It wasn't a really strong smell, almost smelled like a fire, but not quite. So I laid there for a couple minutes trying to figure out what the smell was, if there was a smell. ( I was still pretty much a sleep, so it was hard to tell). Then I heard a weird noise coming from Rick's fish tank in the the front door entry way. At first I thought nothing of it since the filter always makes noises. Then I heard another noise from it and thought that Rick was doing something to it. Then I heard a pretty loud "Pop" sound, so I finally decided to get up and see what Rick was doing. (all this was about 2 minutes from the time I woke up till this point). I walked through baby's play room and saw FIRE!!! I had to shake my head to make sure I was awake. Sure enough, I was. Flames coming from the back of the tank outlet strip. About 6 inches high and 6 inches wide. I screamed for dad saying,"Rick, Fire!!! get up. FIRE, FIRE get up now!!!" (he's a sound sleeper and I knew I didn't have time to run up stairs to get him up. I heard him call, "I'm coming". As I ran to get the fire extinguisher. As I got the extinguisher, he met me down stairs. By then the fire had grown. The house fire alarm went off saying, "FIRE, there's a fire in the house, get out immediately!!!" and kept repeating. The entire downstairs was filled with smoke. Rick got the extinguisher and put the fire out.
By that time it was bigger, (not sure the size, but growing bigger). Now I have a huge mess to clean up in the front entry.
What happened..... The water ran over the top from the filter and fell onto the outlet strip that was on the floor causing a fire. The plugs from the fish tank are completely melted!!! It was a good thing I was sleeping on the couch,
got the headahe (obviously from the smell of the smoke) and went to see what was going on, or our house would have burnt down while we were all upstairs sleeping!!!!!
So, we are all fine, but thought I 'd share that wonderful early morning experience with you! Oh, and the fish tank..... it's now gone!!! And what about KD during all of this... she was upstairs sleeping. She finally came downstairs when the house alarm came on and slept on the couch. Not even caring about a thing called a "FIRE".
