You see Rick has been sick for a long time. He wouldn't go to the doctor as he thought he knew what it was. Come to find out.... he didn't!
He was hospitalized with SEVERE Pancreatitis. One of the worse cases the doctors have seen. Caused from a Gallstone that stuck in the worse possible place it could in the pancreas.... After 5 days in the hospital, and small miracle, the stone passed on it's own without the need for the risky surgery they were going to do. They then went in and did emergency gallbladder surgery. There were a few complications, (but once again, with the prayers on his behalf) another miracle happened and all was well with getting it out.
Just when he thought he was going home (after one week in the hospital), one doctor overstepped 7 other doctors and would NOT let him go home. He still did not like the blood counts as was not comfortable with sending him home. He decided to do further testing. (another blessing in disguise).
With more testing came the results that Rick had develope a large cyst sitting between his pancreas and stomache. 5 x 12 cenimeters in size. (which we would not have known about had he gone home).
A week later, the tests were redone and the cyst had grown to 6 1/2 X 14 1/2 centimenters. On June 16th, Rick was transferred to a long term hospital where he will be for several weeks. He needs to be fed by IV's until the cyst develops a shell or crust. (this usually takes approximately 6 weeks). Once that shell forms they will go in and surgically remove the cyst. At which time, they will be able to slowly get him back on solid foods and come home for further recovery.
We are greatful for the power of prayer! We have had hundreds (actually thousands) praying for Rick and our family of which we are eternally greatful. We have seen and continue to see the Lord's hand throughout all that we have been through. Here are a few pictures of Rick "enjoying" his vacation! (actually he is bored to death)
Pictures of 1st time getting liquids (after 5 days of NOTHING)... KD and Friend decorating for Rick's 51st birthday, (kids sent a box of decorations)..... His birthday gifts...... The twins we babysit came to visit "Mr. Rickity"
